The Critical Critics

Posted by C.J

My perfect eyesight failed to skim through the homepage at once without a bit (!) of strain. But then I can’t complain, may be they just had too much information and a page/size limit to scoop into. It won’t hurt to make the side columns a bit more easy to glance through. Who likes to read tiny manuscripts anyway, even if they are not our course books.
Overall the content is pretty organized and seems updated. Gives you decent reviews and feedback. Something we all hope to get before we shed a few dollars going to the theaters.
A number of categories being grouped into, makes it easier to review and you can hope to find everything you are looking for. Bombarded by the long list of movies and the information, I felt solace in the small search link I found at the bottom, but just so to review the content, I searched for a couple of new popular movies, and to my surprise, thy were nowhere to be seen. On the contrary it showed some completely unrelated results. If I sound like complaining, then I also understand the sea of movies that come out these days. We are not looking at an encyclopedia afterall.

The layout is simple and though there are no eye catching design features so after smiling over the carton of the critique sniffing out his nose which is apt for the theme , the focus is suddenly concentrated on content. Which I agree is a bit unique and interesting. The theme is a bit interactive as well which tells you the number of people online and allows you to post comments and participate in polls, it definitely makes it a bit different from the movie review blogs. The movie review queue also makes u wanna come back to it.
Features like the poll and the grading scale, do come into notice and keep you hooked to the site long enough. Though unique, I would say the grading convention is contrary to the conventional schemes (which could be taken positively as long as everybody understands, but yet again, I need to go check what the average IQ is these days). So where one expects to see 5 stars, they actually see some icon which I could hardly figure out what the graphic denotes 5 as a negative connotation.

So on a rating of 5
Design ? 3.9/5
Content - 3.5/5
Relevance ? 4.3/5
Target ? Almost everybody who watches movies and cares to know the verdict and opinion or atleast is curious to do so.
Over all I give this site a strong 3.8/5 but with a few changes like design, formatting, color schemes and with more and more critiques poking in their nose together following the open invite on the site to join in , the website can potentially become very popular.

Now it was not that hard to be the critique to a critique?though I agree its hard to cover every possible movie ever made, but sites like these our viewers expect to be updated. Good I don’t have a section on my site for them to get back onto me?. Though I believe, an honest opinion counts.. ;) until next time.
Till then, here’s a link to The Critical Critics.
